Jenna Barbieri, mezzo-soprano

Hi I’m Jenna! I am a singer, actor, performer, teacher, music arranger and transcriber based in NYC and the DC area.  I grew up in Queens, NY in a 100% Italian-American household.  Our family loves “cawfee” and “chawklet”, but we especially love music.  By the time I was in third grade my dad had brought home every instrument from his band classroom for me to try.  The next thing I knew I was in the jazz band playing saxophone in middle school, and then I was off to LaGuardia High School where I majored in Voice.  I fell in love with classical music, jazz music, and Musical Theatre as well as teaching.  I then took my aspirations to the University of Maryland where I received a BM in Vocal Performance and a BME in Music Education.  At this point, I was absolutely hooked on performing. I was in operas, musicals, and performed in choirs at venues such as The Kennedy Center and Carnegie Hall.  I discovered a new love at the University of Maryland, and that was writing/arranging.  I arranged music for the A Cappella group I was in, DaCadence A Cappella.  We performed this music, won competitions with this music, and won awards for this music. Once I graduated from UMD, I got a job as an elementary school general music teacher, which was an absolute blast. I recently received MM in Vocal Performance, Classical Voice at NYU Steinhardt. I also work as an event host for BreakoutIQ and social media manager and event coordinator for Yoga For The Singer. When I am not performing or arranging, you can find me eating cannoli and watching movies, I’ve seen almost every movie that has come out in theatres since 2018, ask me about it!

My Mission:

I believe in the integrity of all music and performance art. I take pride and joy in honoring and learning about how to accurately represent and achieve each style of music technically, aesthetically, and historically.

Many times, “the industry” tries to put us in boxes. I am here to completely destroy that box.

Be unapologetically you. That is my message and mission. I hope to empower myself and others to sing and perform in a wide range of styles and genres to honor them as they are. Show them to the world with love and open arms.
